Young Writers Workshop: Experimental Writing Space [requires Flash Player 6.0 or higher]

Welcome to the Young Writers experimental writing space. Feel free to investigate all four possibilities for written experimentation. The purpose behind this space is not only to aid in the generation of new creative content, but also to shed some light on the nature of writing on a digital medium. In other words, the nature of these exercises is meant to contain writing on the screen. How might these exercises differ from those practiced in the physical space of the workshop? We would love to hear your thoughts, revelations, and creations. If you are so inclined, you can post your experimental work by accessing the shared experiments link. Please feel free to contact us and provide feedback about ways in which this space might grow in the future. For those interested in researching online experimental writing further, you can access these additional resources.

:: Linguistic Juxtaposition ::

Explore experimental writing in a setting where words are randomly generated. Your task? Put them back together again in a way that you see fit.

:: Constrained Space ::

When you only have two square inches in which to fit your statement, language is at a premium. What words matter most to you?

:: Unlikely Spaces ::

Explore the text-image relationship in a screen-based environment. Randomize three images, let the software do its thing, and write accordingly.

:: Liquid Language ::

Language is a malleable entity, not completely unlike the properties of water. See what new connections you create in the fluid environement of liquid language!
